What is Digital Marketing

As it says in the name, Digital Marketing is a digital form of marketing which has become an important aspects in today's businesses. Marketing has evolved through many years. It started around 1500 before common area. The term itself came in dictionaries in 1897. Traditional Marketing will always stay as it comes in forms of billboards, poster ads, event ads and so on. Marketers use traditional marketing to interact with audience in physical locations. However, as the technology is becoming advanced day by day and the audiences is mostly found on social media, it has become important to reach audience through advance technology. Which is why Digital Marketing is growing and becoming popular among many businesses. The main purpose of digital marketing is to connect with existing customers or to attract people who are already interested in your product.

There are many forms of digital marketing, such as social media marketing, search engine marketing, email marketing, mobile  marketing, content creation, affiliate marketing, influence marketing and many others. The main purpose of digital marketing is to reach more people, minimize costs and engage more with customer. All these different forms of Digital Marketing have different benefits and purposes. 

Search engine optimization:  The purpose of this is to increase the visibility of a business or a website on search engines such as google and to attract organic traffic. SEO does not only strengthen the website and the business's online presence but only drives organic traffic and spreads awareness to the website. 

Content marketing: The purpose of content marketing is to educate, entertain and inform a target audience by creating valuable and relatable content. The content needs to creative and attractive in order to attract a lot of customers. This is the creative side of digital marketing. Therefore, if you are artistic and creative, this is a sign for you to start your digital marketing journey. This part of Digital marketing is also very well connected to graphic designing.

Social Media marketing: The purpose of this is to build awareness of a website on social media and increase engagement so more people can interact with the business. This also increases brand loyalty due to its abilities like replying to the comments, engaging with customers through dms or by analysing the post like and comments. 

Pay per click advertising: The purpose of this advertising method is to drive immediate results. The traffic is driven by placing paid advertisements on search engines to attract customers. Pay per click is very similar to SEO however, this is a much more faster and immediate method used by many businesses. By clicking on a relevant add, the customer directed to a website. There are high chances of sales due to the relevance of the add. 

Email marketing: Email marketing nurtures and engages existing customers by personalised emails that drive the customers to action. Email marketing is one of the best types of marketing to exist out there. The main reason for this is the ability to sent personalised emails to customers with a catchy headline to catch the customers attention and informing them about  a new product, blog or service. This is mostly used in customer retention stage so the customers keep getting back to a certain business.

Affiliate marketing: The purpose of this is to expand a business's reach by collaborating with affiliates who promote products and services for commission.  This is a flexible opportunity for many because businesses only pay commission to affiliate once the sale is made. this is a popular career choice among people as well because now days it is very easy to build a presence in social media and once you have a few people following you or reading your blogs, it becomes easy to convert them in customers. 

Influencer marketing: The purpose of this is to use a well known person's following and influence to drive sales and engagement with a business. You have probably seen an influencer on social media, promoting a product and recommending the followers to buy the product. This is a very clever strategy attract customer because now days people are heavily influenced by social media which is why usually businesses pay well known influencers to promote their products and services.

Mobile Marketing: The purpose of this is to use methods like SMS, Apps, and mobile friendly websites to attract and engage more people. The main advantage of mobile marketing is its ability to reach customers regardless of location. This is due to the features such as targeting abilities and data analytics. Mobile marketing works well for app developing businesses, but many other businesses uses this method in their marketing strategies due to its different benefits. 

All these different digital marketing types are a career in themselves. They all have different strategies, methods and advantages and therefore are used for different purposes. Businesses also develop strategies by combining some these methods together and creating a strong marketing plan.
